چکیده
The importance of frustration and disorder is well known to condensed-matter physicists working in the field of spin-glasses and related systems [1]. In these systems one can find a variety of “unusual” phases which, in some cases, present completely new phenomena (for example, the existence of a multiplicity of vacua not related by a symmetry of the action). It is interesting to ask whether similar phenomena could happen in a field theory and what will be the physical consequences. As a first step in this direction, we address here the issue of frustration in lattice gauge theories. Specifically we will study a model in which frustration is introduced by hand (although inspiration is taken from the hopping-parameter expansion of QED).

Lattice gauge theory is our primary tool for the study of non-perturbative phenomena in hadronic physics. In addition to giving quantitative information on confinement, the approach is yielding first principles calculations of hadronic spectra and matrix elements. After years of confusion, there has been significant recent progress in understanding issues of chiral symmetry on the lattice.

We present a high statistics study of the D-and B-meson decay constants. The results were obtained by using the Clover and Wilson lattice actions at β = 6.0 and 6.2.

We consider a lattice gauge theory at finite temperature in (d+1) dimensions with the Wilson action and different couplings βt and βs for timelike and spacelike plaquettes. By using the character expansion and Schwinger-Dyson type equations we construct, order by order in βs, an effective action for the Polyakov loops which is exact to all orders in βt. As an example we construct the first non-...

The divergences of the generating functional of quenched Chiral Perturbation theory (qCHPT) to one loop are computed in closed form. We show how the quenched chiral logarithms can be reabsorbed in the renormalization of the B0 parameter of the leading order Lagrangian. Finally, we do the chiral power counting for the quenched case and show that also finite loop corrections may diverge in the ch...
